Welcome to the 6th in our series of Tankers Workshops. This one is from the article "5 More Things Good Players do More Often Than Average Players." Today we're talking about something good players do quite a lot and that's shoot the tracks.
Is there anything in the game that makes you pucker faster than getting tracked in front of enemies? You can't reach for that repair kit fast enough, I'm betting. So now you understand the power of tracking enemy tanks for your team; especially if you have a gun that will struggle to do regular damage to them.
Tracking damage counts as assisted damage for you, and gives your big guns the best chance to do damage to the enemy tanks.
Even tracking somebody who immediately repairs is valuable - you just made him burn a repair kit.

How to do it
The most effective way to take a tank's tracks off are to shoot it in the front, or rear, drive wheels. Those are the wheels at the front and rear end of the tracks on either side.
Here's a video from Circonflexes. Notice that he tracks pretty much every enemy he encounters. Locking down their tracks gives him, and his team, a tactical advantage.
TO DO: O.K., so to build this habit is simplicity itself. The next time you're in battle, look for an opportunity to shoot the tracks off an enemy. Try to do it at least once per game for the next 10 games.

More advanced: Especially look for opportunities to track autoloaders. Frequently average players in autoloaders will try to empty their whole clip before pulling back into cover. If you can track them in the open there's a decent chance you can track them on reload...so they could be sitting in the open for totally defenseless and unable to return fire until they can repair their tracks or get their reload done. Many times that's all your team will need to send them back to the garage. :-)
