Common myths in World of Tanks

I thought I might use this space to talk about a few common myths I see all the time in World of Tanks (WOT).

In no particular order...

"Dynamic platoons get you extra XP and credits!"

Nope.

First off, let's define a couple of terms. A "dynamic platoon" is a platoon that you create during the battle. Almost every battle you see people, usually during the countdown, inviting others to platoon with them. If they accept that creates a new platoon and that's a "dynamic platoon".

A "static platoon" is a platoon that you enter the battle with.

Now then, to get the XP and credit bonus for being in a platoon, you have to be in that platoon already, when you click "Battle".

Dynamic platoons DO NOT get extra XP or credits for the battle in which they are created. If that platoon stays together for the NEXT battle, THEN you would get the bonuses. But creating the platoon during the countdown (or later) in the battle does NOT get you an XP or credits bonus.

Note: Dynamic platoons MAY be useful for completing certain missions. Maybe you have a "You and your platoon combine for 4K damage" or something like that. In that case a dynamic platoon usually qualifies. Also dynamic platoons DO qualify for certain platoon medals like "Brothers in Arms" or "Crucial Contribution". That's one reason why late in the battle you sometimes see people with several kills urgently trying to create a platoon with another player who has a few kills - so they can get a sneaky Brothers in Arms medal.

"Female commanders can't BIA with male crew"

This one USED to be true, quite a while back, but it's not anymore. Today BIA and "Sisters of Steel" (what the female BIA is/was called) are completely interchangeable. Your female crew and male crew can share the BIA perk no problem.

Also a couple of the "band tanks" (TL-1 LPC and Primo Victoria) crews have "Band of Brothers" instead of "BIA, but it's the same thing and it's totally interchangeable with BIA or Sisters of Steel.

"Controlled Impact doesn't work if both tanks are moving"

The tank with the Controlled Impact skill HAS to be moving for the skill to have any effect; but what if the other tank is moving too?

The answer is: Controlled Impact still works. Of course if BOTH tanks have Controlled Impact they could cancel either other out (to some degree) but for you to get benefit from Controlled Impact your tank has to be moving (at least slightly) and it doesn't matter if the other tank is or not.

I sometimes see Arty players add this skill to their drivers to surprise those people at the end of the game who try to ram kill them. But that arty driver needs to move their tanks slightly before impact otherwise it has no effect.

For more on this see this post where we did some "scientific testing" of the Controlled Impact skill.

Got a WOT myth you think I should add? Leave it in the comments below!

GLHF!
