World of Tanks 1.10 is here!

The update is here, and I'll use this post to share a few thoughts.

Equipment 2.0

Perhaps the biggest change to the game it will be VERY interesting to see what happens here. This is possibly going to require a significant amount of rethinking among players.

My bigger concern is what this does to the economics of the game. Most notably you can no longer demount binocs, camo net, or toolboxes for free. Which means that all the mods that move them from tank to tank are either broken...or will now cost you gold every time you change tanks in-game.

And for those of us who only had a handful of binocs and camo nets (I rarely use toolboxes) it means we're going to have to buy a LOT more of those, if we're going to keep playing a wide variety of tanks.

Ultimately it's potentially a LOT more equipment to have to buy, which means a lot more credit grinding will be needed.

Wheeled tanks

First of all, the MUCH anticipated nerf to wheelies is apparently in this patch. For me the biggest question will be how (if at all) they've adjusted the way shots into their wheels are handled. If it's now possible to track them, or at least significantly slow them down, that will be a good thing.

I'm mostly concerned that the wheelies not be able to just YOLO across the map with relative impunity.

New old map: Pearl River

The Pearl River map is back. It left the game right before I started playing, so I don't have any experience on it. I haven't heard a ton of buzz about it, but I'm always happy to see new maps, so looking forward to trying it out.

Polish tanks

There's a new Polish MT line starting up. Looks like it breaks off from the 14TP, and as I recall I didn't like hte 14TP that much the first time through so I used FreeXP to unlock the first tank of the new branch. It's called the DS PZInz (AKA "Deasy Peazy") and after playing a total of 1 game in it I'd say...

...it's not bad at Tier 5. Mobility is good, armor is a little trolly, the gun has a little pop, good gun depression. View range is trash and camo is pretty average; but I should clarify that I have my Polish MT crew in it and that crew isn't very good yet.

Battle communication

So...the new battle communication thing is interesting; but so far few people seem to use it.

During the countdown you can click where you intend to go. Theoretically pretty useful, but fewer than 1/3 of my teammates have used it so far. So...

During the battle there are some more options for calling fire, saying you're going to back somebody up, etc. So far...also gets limited use. In one game I called for fire on somebody and a teammate replied that he was going to back me up...but he was in no position to back me up. In fact, he'd have had to drive quite a long way to do so, and he didn't seem to make any effort to do so, before being killed about a minute later.

So...we'll see if it ever lives up to its potential.

Also...

  • New bonds system: Pretty much the same mechanic as the Battle Pass system, we'll be rewarded a predictable number of bonds for playing tier X and ranking at a particular level in battle. Sounds fine to me; but I hope they haven't changed the way you currently earn bonds in lower tier vehicles too.
  • So far the teams might not be much better. Then again the wave of 3-15 losses are now 8-15 losses, so maybe they are! LOL
I'll update this post as I have a chance to play the new update.

GLHF!
