A few random things about World of Tanks...
O-Ho? Oh, no.
Realized that I had basically Blueprinted thru the O-Ho and didn't play a single battle in it, so decided to take it out. Just bugs me to have 0 battle tanks in my garage. (Bugs me a little to have tanks with less than 10 battles in my garage, but that's a subject for a different post).
Thanks to having unlocked all the way to Type 5 Heavy I had almost all the modules unlocked already (spent 19K free XP on the top tracks) so I elited it before I took it out. I have a crap crew in it, (I move my prime crew up the line to the top tier) but that's ok.
First battle? Kharkov, top tier. That's nice. Went city and took up an advantageous position. Enemy Mutant bounced two AP shells off me, cool. Then he (and his friends) tapped the 2 key. Not much I can do at that point except try to hide. Every time I poked I got easily penned by APCR from multiple enemies and I tried to return fire with the O-Ho's meh gun.
Crap battle but it did serve to remind me how much I hate playing big slow tanks; especially when APCR makes your armor meaningless.
At least I don't have to play it again.
Playing off your teammates
Even though it rarely seems like it, WoT is a team game. And on those rare occasions when teams work together, they tend to win. Now sometimes your teammates will do something stupid, in which case you don't have to jump off the cliff with them.
But sometimes backing their play, even if it's a little crazy, can be the move that breaks the game open.
This morning I'm on Karelia Defense in my Conqueror. If you read my blog (and since you're here, you might) you probably know that on Karelia Defense I tend to take HTs to one of two key positions:
- The A8 corner, to lure enemies in front of our A line snipers.
- The H1 corner, to lure enemies in front of our 1 line snipers.
Since I spawned on the North end I went to A8 along with a couple of teammates. We had a nice setup - there were three good TDs behind us at A4 to shoot, but unfortunately my two colleagues at A8 weren't being very patient and didn't force the enemy HTs to push around the corner on us. (Notice our dead Bisonte C45 sitting out in the middle of the road in the bottom left corner of the first screenshot?)
Eventually our K-91-PT did something either brilliant or stupid (there's a fine line in this game). He got impatient and he pushed down around flanked the enemy HTs from B9. The enemy had to turn to face him....and that's the crucial moment.
Too often in this situation the HTs (us) wouldn't be paying attention, or would be too timid, and would let the K-91-PT push into that 1 v 3 and just get killed. As soon as I saw him make the move, however, I knew we'd have an opportunity to maybe break this side and I pressed W to put the enemy into a crossfire. Fortunately our 705 did too, eventually.
As hoped it worked out, when we pushed around the corner we were about to quickly finish off the enemy tanks there (despite some bad RNG for me) en route to an 11-10 win (staying patient pays, we had good defensive positions and the enemy TDs were too timid to push until us until it was way too late.
One mistake the K-91-PT made, though...he looped ALL the way around so that he was to the West of the enemy tanks, same side we were on. He should have stayed on their East side so they were in a cross-fire. Fortuantely it worked out, but by circling all the way around he nearly negated the advantage of his flanking play.
Stay alert for opportunities like that to put your enemies into a crossfire.
Stop alerting me for silly stuff
World of Tanks LOVES to pop alerts and flashing orange things...mostly to tell me about some new decal I earned, or that there's a "badge" available.
Don't.
Care.
About.
Badges or Decals.
Going to take another peek at settings and see if there's a way to too that noise off.
Update: There apparently isn't. :-(
The T 55A
As you probably saw in my previous post I finished the T 55A campaign recently. Took the T 55A out for its first battle this AM. Even though the published stats on it are not that impressive, I have to say it plays very well. Got a nice win and finished MT-1 (with honors) for the Object 260 campaign.
GLHF!
