It was another busy weekend of battles in World of Tanks...here's a few short observations...
Different tanks...different play styles
It's not really a secret that playing light tanks is different from playing heavies which is different from playing tank destroyers. I've discovered that light tanks are, at least for now, my favorite style. I think heavy tanks (at least for me) tend to be the easiest to play. They're mostly about micropositioning and if you're comfortable with the maps and battle objectives you can get where you need to be and then it's just a matter of shooting well, working together and angling your armor.
The hardest, for me at least, are the medium tanks. They're not as fast or hidey as light tanks, but not as big and tough as heavies. I play them as flexible flankers - which is to say I watch the minimap even more than usual and tend to flex back and forth as needed to try and influence the battle. As a result it feels like playing a medium tank is more team-dependent. I can certainly deal damage, get spots and get kills...but at the same time if my team is collapsing around me I find it more difficult to carry alone in a medium.
Something for me to work on, I guess.
MT-25 is a little beast
I added an MT-25 to my garage this weekend and I have to say I'm impressed. It handles well, packs a nice little punch and seems like a very capable light tank. Is it my favorite light? Maybe not yet but it's a lot of fun and very capable.
Watch your back
I learned the hard way this weekend how important it is to check the mini-map in the first 15 or so seconds of the battle. Twice on the map Swamp I pushed aggressively to a spotting bush only to discover after I got there that none of my team had come with me and I was all by myself as multiple enemies arrived. Needless to say neither of those battles went well for me. I've had it happen on Sacred Valley a couple of times too.
So...if you push off at the front make sure to "check over your shoulder" and make sure your team came with you before you've committed to a vulnerable position.
Short one this week. Go have some fun!
