Autoloader: The Grind is Real

AutoLoader is a series of quick takes about World of Tanks.

One of these things is not like the other...

I like the game and I want to be good at it so I tend to grind all of the tank lines just so I can experience everything. Some of those lines are better than others and right now I'm grinding a couple of tank lines that are...well...poor.
  • ARGH-44 - O.K., it's supposed to be the ARL-44, but I was ready to be done with this tank by the time I finished it. It's kinda mobile for a heavy, but the armor is essentially non-existent, it's got HT camo and the gun handling is really meh. It's a second-line support heavy, but even tier 6 MTs can pen the front of it and a lot of tier 8 tanks can overmatch the side armor, so don't count on side-scraping.
  • Setter - You've heard how bad the UK light tanks are. This one might be ok as a tier 6, but as a tier 7 it's pretty weak. Maybe the biggest problem this tank has is the tank traverse. It's just sluggish and that makes it easy to hit on the move. The alpha and DPM are poor too, but in a LT you can overcome that if you have agility and can actively spot. This one is basically a passive scout and not much more. In 33 games I've managed to win only 11, and this is despite having some pretty decent games in it.

Bonus with the ARGH-44: Using the top gun it not only missed lots of fully aimed shots, but it BOUNCED shots off a SkorpG and at least 2 or 3 different arties. When you can't even pen arty reliably....

Better than I expected

On the other hand I've long avoided grinding the UK HTs because I dreaded the Churchills, which look pretty awful. I'm only on the Tier 5, so far, but it's actually not that terrible. Maybe it's shining compared to the extremely low expectations I had for it.

I had no expectations...

The VK 30.02 (D) is the tier 7 German MT and though I only have a few games in it so far I think it's actually really good. 220 alpha, decent rate of fire, accuracy is ok, decent turret armor for a tier 7, good gun depression...plus it has mobility, view range...  It MIGHT be the best tier 7 MT in the game.

Maybe.

Attitude determines altitude

I can pretty often predict the outcome of a battle based on how the team behaves in chat at the start. If the team starts off arguing and calling each other names it's fairly likely the game is going to be a loss.
Also it's no surprise that players who spend all the time complaining tend to do pretty poorly. In a battle this morning our Mutant begged us to let the other team cap so that the game would be over sooner. We actually got pretty close to pulling it off, but the other team did cap when we were down 11-13. Maybe if our Mutant hadn't been off pouting we'd have won.

Festival Fair

The Festival Fair is basically the summer Advent Calendar - a series of "Tank of the Day" sales. I like the idea, though so far I already have all but 2 of the tanks offered. The two I don't have - the Mutant and the KV-5 - I'm not sure I want. I just don't really enjoy slow tanks and don't play heavies that much.

I really like the idea of the Festival Fair though, I never turn down opportunities to add new tanks to the collection.

GLHF!
