Today in "Don't be that guy" in World of Tanks....the "GET OFF MY LAWN!" guy.
Had a battle this morning on Mannerheim Line, south spawn. I'm in a light tank, we have 2 other LTs on our team, and 3 arties, and I have this particular LT set up best for passive scouting so I decided to go to the F6 bush to see if I can light their heavies crossing on the 9 line, and anybody who goes to the sniper shelf. at C8. I even announce this to my team during the countdown, and ping the map to show my intention.
Battle starts, I drive straight to the bush pile, and instantly light 5+ of the enemy. At the same time our Dicker Max, who is trundling out of the base, is pinging me on the map and demanding I move. He then proceeds to sit right behind me, alternately shooting me and typing in chat that I'm useless and I need to get out of his spot.
I kept spotting, and eventually took a few shots, but ultimately the battle was a 5-15 loss. Not helped by the fact that one of our top tier TDs spent most of the battle shooting me and raging in chat about me being in his spot.
Frankly if he'd gone to that spot and fired he'd have gotten lit and vaporized. That particular player has 34K battles and a 44.7% win rate - not hard to see why.
At least he didn't push me out, I guess.
The lesson
You don't have a spot. If there's a spot you feel is important for you to take, you should tell your team during the countdown what your intention is. Good teammates may let you have that spot. Or they might not.
Many times I've gone to a spot only to discover a teammate was already there. In some of those cases I'd announced in the countdown my intention to take that spot. Well...didn't work out that way. So I either accommodated myself to working with the teammate there, or I left and went somewhere else.
I was in a useful spot for a light tank, our other light tanks were in the NW of the map spotting that area already, our HTs were fully engaged in the SE. Rather than pouting, shooting me, and raging in chat he should have found something useful to do; like getting on the G6 shelf and shooting enemies on the B line.
