Snap Shot: The T78 - Good Looking, but a Slightly Worse Hellcat

I'm sure I'll get around to doing a full tank review of the T78 (The new premium tier 6 American TD in World of Tanks) at some point. Picked one up this morning and took it out for a battle. Here's my initial impressions...

  • It looks great. The 3D American skin is eye-catching and it's a good looking tank overall. It looks kinda like a blend between the Hellcat and the T25/2 with the stock turret.
  • The gun is good. 240 alpha at tier 6 is pretty good; it's basically the same gun that the Hellcat and Jackson have, though slightly worse dispersion and aim time. DPM is fine, not special, slightly better than the Hellcat due to a slightly faster reload. Shell velocity on the standard rounds felt a bit slow, but maybe I just need to get used to it. It has the same excellent gun depression you expect from an American tank. Note that you CANNOT mount Vstabs on this tank, and you will want Snap Shot on your gunner.
  • Mobility is fine. It's built on the Chaffee's chassis, but it's 7 tons heavier, so don't expect it to be as quick as the Chaffee. Surprisingly it's 5 tons heavier than the Hellcat so it's not quite as quick nor as fast as the Hellcat. But it's more mobile than the Jackson. Also, it does have better traverse stats than the Hellcat. Driving the T78 felt pretty comfortable.
  • Camo is excellent, but again, it's just a bit worse than the Hellcat in that category.
  • Spotting...see above. Very good view range, even with a mediocre crew. Just a notch below the Hellcat.
  • Armor...well, it's an open top TD built on a Chaffee. So it's got just a hint of frontal turret armor, and pretty much nothing else. It does have 30 more HP than the Hellcat, which is something I suppose. Just like the T67 or Hellcat there are a lot of tier 6 derp guns (O-I, Jumbo, KV-2, etc) that can probably 1-shot you.
  • Crew - This is important...it only carries 4 crew members. Which makes it NOT a great crew trainer for your American TDs, most of which have at least 5.
Overall: It's a decent tank at tier 6. I'm not unhappy to have it, and I think it'll be fun to cruise around in. But if you already have a Hellcat, I'm not sure you get anything with the T78, other than the good looks, that you don't already have.
