Snap Shot: Managing the garage

In a previous post I talked about the various phases I've gone thru in the game. From focusing on wins, to trying to 3-mark tanks, and more.Since then I've entered the "Tank Collector" phase in WoT. I'm basically working to get every tier 5 or higher tank in World of Tanks - though I mostly wait until they're on sale to buy them.

As a result I currently have 353 tanks in my garage. How do I manage that?!?

I'm using the "Set as Primary" tool to make my garage management easier.

How to use it

Using it is simplicity itself. Right-click on the tank you want to add the Primary label to and select Set as Primary. Want to remove the Primary tag from a tank? Just repeat the process and chose Uncheck Primary label.

Tanks that have the primary label appear first in the garage to make them easier to find; and you can use the Primary filter button to filter your garage to JUST the primary tanks.

You can tag as many tanks as you want with the Primary label, though obviously the more tanks you tag, the less useful it is. If you have 200 tanks tagged as primary...well, why bother?

How am I using it?

I have 2 kinds of tanks that I tag as primary:

Tanks I'm grinding

First off I have the 2-4 tech tree tanks that I'm grinding at the time. Usually I'm grinding them because they're On Track, or they're the ShowdownSaturday tank for that week.

Currently I have four of these:
  • P.43bis - The Italian heavies are supposed to appear this month, and they supposedly branch off from the Italian MT line after Tier 6 - which is the P.43bis. I went ahead and ground about 60K XP on the P.43bis, which I hope will be enough to unlock the Tier VII Italian HT when it appears.
  • Leo - This is the ShowdownSaturday tank for this week so I'm playing it a bit, hoping to get a good score to submit.
  • Type 61 - The STB will be On track starting January 5th, so I'm getting a head start by grinding the Type 61 a bit. I should be within 15K or so of unlocking the STB by the time the event starts.
  • AMX 13 90 - The AMX 13 105 will be On Track starting January 20th. Just like the Type 61, so I'm getting a head start on that.

Tanks I like

I've come to realize that of the 353 tanks currently in my garage there are only small subset of them that I really enjoy playing. So what I've done is select 3-5 Premium tanks and 3-5  Tech Tree tanks in each category (Except SPG, I rarely play arty) and tagged those as Primary.

My criteria? Simple: Do I like playing it? And things can get added or removed from the list as the mood strikes me.

My list as of the moment:

When I'm ready to play

My garage opens and all my primary tanks are at the front. I usually start with the tanks I'm grinding, so I set the filter to "Non Elite Vehicles" which puts my grinding Primary tanks right at the front.
Note: That doesn't work with the Leo because it's already elited, but that's a one-off.

To get the Leo and P.43bis at the front I'd change the filter to Normal (Tech Tree) vehicles, and since they're both MTs I'd add the Medium filter too. That will put those two right at or near the top.

When I'm done playing my grinding tanks, I'll usually spend the rest of the session playing whatever else I feel like. Usually I have a particular class I feel like playing so I'll set the filter to that (LT, MT, HT, TD).

Since I don't like to waste my x5 missions (x5 XP for 2nd+ win of the day) I'll probably also filter out any tanks I've already won in today.

And that's it...

The Primary tag lets me move the tanks I like to play (or feel like I need to play) right to the front of the list, and the other filters let me easily see just the Heavies, or just the Premiums, or just the Tier IXs from that group.

Makes it quick and easy for me to play my tanks in a World of Tanks session.
