Steppes Assault
Had my first battle on Steppes assault mode today. We were on the attack and it took a moment to get oriented to the mode on this map. Our team was ultimately successful and they were because our heavies and MTs lemminged HARD in the North and just rolled to the 1/2 line.
We were helped a bit because 4 or 5 of the enemy decided to be tourists and drive out across the open plain. I was in my STRV S1 and pulled into the bush at C5...where I got to just farm the multiple enemies who drove out in the open along the G & F line.
I'll need a couple more battles to validate how to play this, but the "rush the north" and have a TD or two spotting/farming the plain certainly worked well.
Here's a video where Orzanel shows the defensive strategy of rushing to K8
Redshire assault
Had an assault game on Redshire this AM in my E 25. Decided to see if I could get to the K1 corner to shoot the south side of the castle. Answer: I couldn't. Enemy tanks were already pretty close up there and I got spotted fast. Did a few shots of damage and spotted some more...but I was one of the first ones dead.
Live and learn, that was too aggro a play.
Don't be that guy: Pedant edition
In a battle on Safe Harbor with my AMX 13 57 the other day. Getting some bad RNG and made a quip in chat about how I'd just missed an entire "clip". Our Indien Panzer decided that couldn't be allowed so he replied "It's not a clip, it's a magazine." OK, whatever. But then he decided he needed to spend the rest of the battle, because he was already dead I suppose, basically telling people including me to uninstall.
So, ok, he's a bit of a jerk. Whatevs. Then he decides to message me after the battle to "apologize for making me look foolish" but that he wanted to make sure that "people without firearms experience get it right."
Mmmkay. So first off he really just made himself look foolish. It's technically correct that it's a "magazine" but many (most?) people in WoT call it a clip as in "clipping somebody out" perhaps largely because it's just quicker to say/type. And let's be honest, it doesn't really matter. It's a videogame.
Secondly, he's a 47% player despite having almost exactly the same number of battles fought as I do. He really should consider a more humble approach, rather than haughtily declaring himself the game's terminologist.
Turns out one of my clanmates is familiar with him too, and shared a similar tale of this fellow lecturing on proper light tank play in a game...despite no demonstrated ability.
So the takeway?
If you're not a very good player, maybe be reluctant to lecture others on tactics. And nobody gives a shit if it's a "clip" or a "magazine" so don't pretend you're conveying important info. You might as well be correcting people's spelling or grammar in battle chat.
Don't be that guy.
GLHF!
