This morning I rediscovered the AltProto AMX 30 - a Premium Tier 8 French Medium Tank - in World of Tanks. I'd forgotten I even had it and had only ever played one battle in it. Turns out...it suits my playstyle pretty well!
300 alpha gun with 232 standard pen and 1000m/s shell velocity. 11 degrees of gun depression and .33 dispersion. The gun feels excellent. DPM isn't amazing, but that's because without a rammer you've got about a 9 second reload. Bond rammer is probably my next upgrade to this tank.
Mobility is excellent too with 24.23 P/W and a 65Km/h top speed.
Camo is ok, with a good (not great) camo crew it's about 27% stationary and 21.5% on the move. View range is as expected, with optics and a not-great vision crew it gets to 445. As the crew improves I'll probably drop the optics for something else.
The armor doesn't look very good on paper - 150mm on the front of the turret, only 60mm on the front of the hull, but it's surprisingly trollish. I bounce a lot more shots than I have any right to thanks to some nice angling, and the gun depression means you can play it on hills/ridges and expose very little of your tank.
The not-so-good
It doesn't make great credits for a premium, probably because even the standard rounds cost 1,030 per. The price you pay for shell velocity and pen I guess.
It's also not a great crew trainer for French crews because it has 4 crew (unlike the BatChats) but the Commander is also the radio operator, unlike the AMXs. I'm going to switch in my BC25t Commander and run my AMX 30 1st Proto crew with him.
Overall though, it's a fun tank that suits me. I'm going to start playing it a lot more often.
GLHF!
