Get In The Fight

One of the most powerful pieces of advice I've heard about World of Tanks came from Zeven (see links at right) who said on one of his streams: "You can't be afraid to play the video game."

A very common problem that I see in pub games (Random Battles) is that too many players hang at the back, afraid to get into the game. Maybe they're not comfortable with the map. Maybe they're not sure what to do. But they camp in the bushes and don't do anything useful for a very long period of time.

If you want to be effective in this game you can't be afraid to press the W key and you can't be afraid to find red tanks and left-click on them.

It can be helpful during battles to pause and ask yourself: "Am I doing something useful right now?" If the answer is no....correct that.

Now to be fair sometimes camping in a bush *IS* useful. I frequently play light tanks and often that means sliding into a bush and sitting quietly...but I'm spotting enemies for my teammates to get shots on. It may be that you're playing an SPG so you're sitting in the bushes by the spawn but you're hopefully taking shots at targets your team lights on the field. It may be that you're in a TD and you've taken up a strategic position in a bush that gives you sniping shots on enemies.

If your gun, or your optics, are being active in the battle that's fine.

But if you're in a medium tank, or a heavy tank, and you're 100 meters away from any action, not shooting, not spotting, not really on your way to anywhere useful...take a deep breath, look at the mini-map, decide where you can be most useful and press W.

You're only going to get better if you're willing to fight in the fighting game. With apologies to Zeven. :)
