Had a big weekend of battles thanks to x5 bonuses and a little more time on my hands this particular weekend. Here are some random thoughts...
Ding Dong the Lee is Dead...
I've written about the M3 Lee here before. It's actually not dreadful - it has enough mobility and a good enough gun to be sort of fun sometimes. Unfortunately the paper thin armor, poor view range and lack of a turret means that when you get the Tier IV Lee into Tier V and Tier VI games (which you almost always do) you're frequently going to be getting one-shot from 430 meters away by a Hellcat you never saw or come around a corner to find yourself face to face with a KV-1...and since you lack a turret he's almost always going to get the first shot.
Thankfully those days are finally behind me. Thanks to the x5 weekend I was about to get enough XP (just this morning, actually) to research the T1 Heavy...and I promptly sold the M3 Lee.
Haven't bought the T1 yet....but that's my next topic.
Everything's on Sale
One of the overlooked things happening right now is that camo paint and equipment are 50% off on World of Tanks. So when you take a break from earning your x5 XP bonuses you might want to make sure you've got all the gear and camo you need. Upgraded ventilation is normally 500K for my VK 36.01 or KV-1 but I was about to get it for BOTH of them for that price. Likewise I've been adding coated optics to most of my mediums at deep discount. And 30 days of camo paint for nearly all my tanks - but especially TDs, MTs and LTs.
The sale ends, I think, tomorrow. So I'll probably buy the T1 Heavy Thursday or Friday.
The Type 64
I got a premium light tank this weekend - also as part of the sale. I wanted something in the Tier V/VI range and the Type 64 (Chinese Tier VI) was the clear choice. It's an interesting vehicle - very much like a T67 except maybe a little faster and with better view range. It's got that same T56/Hellcat gun though, so when you do decide to left-click on somebody you can actually do some damage.
One of the criticisms I heard about the Type 64 was that it wasn't very good as a credit-earner (for a Premium). Maybe I had low expectations but it seems like I'm earning a 20-40 profit pretty much every battle. I think I even broke 50K on one battle this weekend. That's not bad - especially for Tier VI.
One surprise for me - I thought premium tanks came with a 100% crew. They don't. So I made the decision to go ahead and train the crew to 100% myself. Thanks to x5 weekend and the premium status I'm actually already about 60% of the way to their first crew skill. Good to know in the future, if I acquire any more
So far my win rate isn't very good in the Type 64 though. Not entirely sure why - I've been generally putting up decent numbers - 1500 assisted damage and another ~500 in direct damage...but for whatever reason haven't been winning a lot of battles. (Currently around 45% I think). Hopefully as I get better it will get better too.
O.K., that's enough for now. Go be epic!
