Tactics Talk: Pulling in the fish

Let me start by saying something obvious: When the battle starts each team has 15 guns. What's remarkable is how many players in this game will willingly put themselves into 1 v many situations.

The best example I can think of right now is Karelia Defense.

There are corners at A9 and H1 where brawls tend to happen. The defending team has a HUGE advantage here because typically they end up with TDs and sniping mediums around the A4 and C1/D1 areas. Those are a lot of guns with a lot of DPM to bring to the fight. HOWEVER...too often the defending heavy tanks that go to H1 or A8 don't have patience. They push around the corners to engage the enemy heavies and end up 1 v several.

The problem with that is that their TDs (and often their arty) have no shots around that corner. You've just idled a big percentage of your team's DPM.

What should you do?

If you're in a heavy, or a good medium, go to the A8 or H1 corner and just poke. Take a shot if you have one. Then pull back around the corner. Stay close enough to proxy light the corner. BE PATIENT. On defense the attackers HAVE to push you. They have 10 minutes to cap or kill. If they want to sit back behind that corner and wait for you...let them. In <10 minutes the game will be over and you'll have won.

Eventually they will have to push around that corner to come get you...and when they do they're driving in front of all your other guns. Now they're the ones in the 1 v many situation.

Your play here is to bait them around the corner. You take that initial poke, and probably a shot, just to get their attention, and make them want to come get you. Then you pull back around the corner. Close enough to spot the corner and light them, but far enough that they have to actually come around the corner, exposed to your snipers, to get you.

Be patient. Lure the fish in. Win the game.

Also, if you're a LT or MT...

Don't let the enemy LTs push up to D4 and just sit there. They'll cause a lot of havoc. As a MT it's sometimes useful to get into the rocks around C5 and ambush the enemy LTs who are trying to push through the swamp to D4. Just be careful not to overexpose yourself to their snipers on the G7 shelf. There's an OK rock at E3 that can work to defend D4 also.

Once you've killed their LTs and feel like the middle is clear you can push up to G6 yourself if you want to.

GLHF!
