Playing some USA mediums due to the M48 On Track. I already have the M48, but there are x5 missions to be had and that's a good time to grind Field Modifications and crews.
The American MTs are a mixed bag. Some of them are quite good, and very competitive at their tier. Some of them aren't that good, but still sort of enjoyable to play. And some...well...
M4A3E8 Sherman "Easy 8"
Got the field mods done on the Easy 8. I have two marks on mine from quite a while back but I think I either got a lot of assisting damage, or did it with the derp gun pre-HE Nerf because the 76mm gun is pretty weak. Pen is low, alpha is low...against Tier 7/8 you'll struggle to pen and only do about 115 damage when you do. It fires fast but the accuracy isn't great either.
For some reason I remember this tank being better, but it's just not very competitive beyond Tier VI.
I actually enjoy playing this tank because it's got good mobility and view range for its tier, and the fast reload means you usually have a shot ready when you want one. But I only have a 52% win rate in it, and if dealing damage is what gives you joy you'll be glad to be done with this one.
T20
The T20 is a big step up at Tier VII. 240 Alpha gun, very good mobility. Put a decent crew in it and the T20 can compete even against Tier 8 if you're careful.
Lot more fun grinding the T20 than the Easy 8.
Skill4LTU takes the T20 for a spin
M26 Pershing
I hadn't played the Pershing in a while, so when I stepped back into it to grind some field mods this morning I'd forgotten what a pile of kaku it is. The gun handling is atrocious - I only have a two-skill crew in it but even so it misses SO MANY mid-range shots that I was on tilt after just 4 games. The armor is woeful at Tier 8, mobility isn't terribly good for such a lightly armored tank.
Don't get me wrong, I have a 55% win rate in it, an I've marked it, but it really may be the worst tank (tier-for-tier) in the M48 line. Thank god the M46 is the next tank up and it's much better.
The M46 Patton
Confusingly has the same tank name (different designation tho) as the Tier X, but that's ok because like the Tier X it's quite good.
390 Alpha on the gun is very nice. 218 standard pen isn't great but it's workable. Jumping from the 2100 DPM on the Pershing to the 3100 DPM on the M46 is a substantial improvement. Accuracy is theoretically worse than the Pershing, but I actually found it quite playable.
Like most US tanks it has very good gun depression (10 degrees) and unlike the Pershing the frontal turret armor is a not-awful 216.
Mobility isn't great, but it's driveable.
The M48 Patton
The "Fatton" is the big daddy of the line and its main feature is the gun - 268 standard pen, 390 alpha, .33 accuracy, and nearly 1500m/s shell velocity on the STANDARD rounds. Good aim time, 9 degrees of gun depression, 254mm of frontal turret armor.
If you like ridge warrior mediums with laser guns this is your friend. The M48 is pretty slow - top speed only 45 - so I suppose you could consider throwing a turbo on it but I wouldn't. I run mine with vents, rammer, and v-stabs.
Premium tanks
T25 Pilot Number 1 (Premium)
Also grinding crew and field mods (and credits) in some of the USA Premium MTs. You don't see a lot of T25 Pilot's in battle and there's a reason for that...it sucks. 192 standard pen, sub-2K DPM even with a BIA crew, struggles to get to .34 accuracy, no armor...
Ammo rack is in the front of the hull so you get ammo racked constantly.
Just really not a very good tank all around.
