Wanted to make a couple of quick comments on playing light tanks on these two maps:
Mountain Pass
On Mountain Pass at the outset of the battle I often see light tanks dive down into "the toilet bowl" at G4. That's ok, but...understand that when you're down in the bowl you aren't giving your team any visibility on the guys crossing towards the SW corner. If you have shooters behind you you're just leaving them hanging (and maybe exposed) while the other team crosses invisibly to the fight.
Getting early damage on the crossing enemies can often be the deciding factor in winning the battle.
That doesn't mean never go into the toilet bowl. It means you should consider:
- Are there shooters behind me (including arties) who are ready to shoot the enemy crossers?
- Is there another tank behind me that can still spot the crossing?
If the answer to 1 is yes, and 2 is no...consider staying up on your side of the bowl at least initially to give your team a chance to shoot.
Unless you're in a wheelie or something obscenely fast and you think you can pop up on the other side fast enough to spot the crossing.
Safe Haven
This morning from the West spawn had a battle where our Type 64, our only LT, YOLO'd up the 6 line right from the outset and pushed up into J7. A bold and aggro move. And he did spot 3 or 4 enemy tanks...who promptly killed him.
Naturally he took to the chat to call us all "idiots" for not supporting him.
The reason we didn't support him was that most of us were still lumbering up the 2 line getting into position. If he'd gone to J4 instead of J7 he'd have probably still been alive and getting spots. But instead he charged too far forward, outran his guns, and found himself isolated and without enough support.
It's an AT-15, not an F-15.
On Safe Haven, or any map, give your shooters a chance to get into position, be loaded, and aimed to fire.
GLHF!
