A few quick thoughts on World of Tanks!
At long last Ensk is bigger than a phone booth!
Sometimes.
For years one of my biggest complaints about Ensk has been that Ensk is a tiny tiny map, just 600m on a side. With max view range at 445m it means that there's a good chance you're going to get spotted pretty fast - even if you're cowering in the corner or hugging the red line.
In a heavy tank or an assault TD that doesn't much matter since you're probably pressing W and playing punchy face at close range. But if you're lightly armored, if you're a light tank, if you're a sniper TD or medium, and especially if you're an arty you're probably screwed.
So I'm really excited that Wargaming made Ensk much bigger and it really is very good. The field is now interesting and playable even for tanks that aren't heavily armored.
One catch - it seems like we still have the small Ensk map in two situations:
- If the top tier tank in the game is Tier 7 or below it seems like you can still get the smaller map.
- If you're playing Encounter mode it seems to still be the smaller map.
Still, that's a big improvement. I'm not stuck in my EVEN 90 trying to be useful on a teeny tiny map anymore.
Oh come on, matchmaker!
Matchmaker (MM) didn't do me any favors today. Was playing light tanks and I got Paris, Himmeldorf, Mountain Pass, and Tundra. When I FINALLY got Malinovka...there were three LTs and two Bourrasques on each team. Good grief.
The new Paris, by the way, is absolute trash for light tanks. See what Skill had to say about it:
Battle Pass big finish
We're into the final month of the current Battle Pass chapter. If you're nervous about being able to finish on time here's a reminder - play Tier 4-6. If you max out the battle pass points on those tanks you get a 15 battle pass point bonus and it's not too hard to do - Tier 4 only needs 70 battle pass points to max out. Tier 5 is 85. Tier 6 is 100.
I've probably maxed out 10 or 12 of those tanks now and gladly collected the 150-180 bonus battle pass points.
Battle pass reward: ERAC 105
Quick note here - I picked up the ERAC 105 the other day from Battle Pass. Only one battle in it so far but I'd say it's...ok. It's a meh spotter, not terrible, and the gun is better than I expected. I did 3K combined in a Tier X game on Live Oaks when I only had a spotting setup on it.
It's not OP. But it's not trash.
And remember: it's a reward tank not a premium. So while you can put any French LT crew in it and get extra training, you don't get any extra credits.
