Monday Musings - 5/15/17

As you may have noticed (though I'm betting you didn't) we didn't have a Monday Musings article last week. The reason: I was traveling and though I did try to get in some battles on the road the WiFi I connected to and the laptop I was using was just too laggy...so didn't happen.

But we're back at it now so here we go...

Crew Experience Weekend

Seems like x2 Crew XP is the new default for WarGaming in World of Tanks. And that's fine with me because Crew Training is really important. The T-34 you're driving and the T-34 the guy on the other team is driving have the same base view range, same base camo rating, same reload, etc. You can upgrade yours a bit with equipment like optics or vents - and so can he. But often the differentiator on the battlefield is the crew training. You have a 100% crew with Sixth Sense, Brothers-in-Arms, Concealment, Snap Shot, Situational Awareness, etc...

...suddenly your T-34 can spot his from a few meters further, reload a fraction of a second faster, be just slightly more accurate on those snap shots around the corner or when firing on the move... Does it guarantee you a win? Of course not, but those little advantages add up. If it means you win 5 more battles out of 100 than before...that can be the difference between a 45% win rate and a 55% win rate.

I did a post recently on how I set up my light tank crews. I'll do more soon on how I set up medium and heavy tank crews. I will say that I'm convinced that on LTs, MTs and TDs that Sixth Sense is easily the most important thing to have. Brothers-in-Arms are probably second most important on those. Brothers-in-Arms are probably the most important on heavy tanks and maybe on artillery.

More maps...

Seems like I'm seeing Pilsen, Overlord and Stalingrad more often even at tier V and VI. For heavy tanks the Pilsen and Stalingrad maps are good. For light tanks, none of the three are brilliant. The problem is that none of them offer very great sight lines, not many good passive scout options and the terrain is a bit fraught - making active scouting more difficult. It's tough to come around the corner in a Chaffee and find yourself face to face with a KV-85 or O-I Exp.

Also it's hard to get a lot of supporting fire sometimes. I took my T37 out on Overlord this weekend, drive immediately to the lighthouse area and actively lit up 4 or 5 red tanks for about 90 seconds...virtually no damage. Our single artillery wasn't able to land any shots and our TDs were busy doing something else, I guess. Eventually, with our team down 2-9, I got charged by a Cromwell. I dealt a lot of damage but didn't survive.

The YOLOMobile...

That's how I've started referring to the E25. It's too fast, heavily armored and heavily armed for some of the battles it gets in. At least twice in the last week I've seen an E25 just YOLO (which means charging into the fray with no fear of consequences, in case you didn't know) across the map dealing substantial damage, disrupting traditional dispersions, lighting up most of the other team...and yes, eventually getting killed, but not before causing a disproportional amount of issues.

I'm hard-pressed to think of another mid-tier tank that is as disruptive right now as the E25. It's become what some people used to complain that the AMX ELC was...except the E25 has better armor more hit points and a better gun.

That's it for the moment...I'll probably have another post later this week. Good Luck and Have Fun! (GLHF)
