Snap Shot: On Tracks and the IS-M

The Object 705A On Track has begun in World of Tanks (at least in NA) so I'm grinding my way up that line a bit.

What's an "On Track"?

For those who don't know an On Track is an event in World of Tanks where they pick a Tier X tank and then give discounts and bonuses for all the tanks leading up to it on the tech tree. So for example the tech tree for the 705A is:

Tier 1: MS-1
Tier 2: T-26
Tier 3: T-46
Tier 4: T-28
Tier 5: KV-1
then you have to do a little lateral jump...
Also Tier 5: KV-1S
Tier 6: KV-85
Tier 7: IS
Tier 8: Here the tree forks, but only the IS-M line leads to the 705A. The IS-3 line leads to the IS-7.
Tier 9: Object 705
Tier 10: Object 705A

If you play the Tier 2-7 tanks during the On Track you get a 30% XP bonus in any battle where you damage at least 2 enemy tanks, to help speed the grind.

Once you get to the Tier 8-10 tanks that switches to x2 Crew XP in any battle where you damage at least 2 enemy tanks.

Additionally the Tier 2-5 tanks are 50% off on credits. The Tier 6-10 tanks are 30% off. Even if you're not grinding the line that can be handy if you need to free up some room in the barracks. See: There's No Room at the Inn.

I never make it to the Tier 10 in these On Tracks. I don't play quite enough and I start to lose interest after a while. But I usually make it at least to the Tier 8 or 9, which is fine for me.

Important: If you want to participate in the On Track you need to activate the mission in the premium shop. Here's a link.

The IS-M

I had already worked up that line as far as the IS; with my eye on eventually getting to the IS-7. So with this On Track going I figured it was a good time to resume that grind in a bit of earnest; capitalize on the 30% XP bonus and discounts.

The first day I managed to finish the grind to the IS-M and get that. I've only played a couple of battles in it, but so far it reminds me of the Chrysler K - a rear-turreted heavy with really strong frontal armor, a decent gun, and not so much else.  If you can get behind a rubble pile and keep the enemies in front of you, it can do pretty well. Unless there's a lot of arty. :)

We'll see how I feel about it after a few more battles. So far I like it ok. I'm not a fan of slow tanks, but I am kind of enjoying the 250mm of front turret armor.
