Season 4 of Battle Pass has begun - here are some quick thoughts.
Grindy grind?
This one looks like it may be extra grindy. You need to complete 150 stages to finish all three chapters but each stage now takes 50 BP points.
They did attach some battle pass points to the daily missions; and if you fully "use up" the allowed battle pass points on a particular tank that's a bonus too. But otherwise it's the same 7-5-3 system we've had in the past.
That's all well and good but...if you average 5 points per battle, which is not quite as easy as it sounds, it'll take you 10 battles to get thru each stage. That's about 80-90 minutes of play for most people. If you can only play an hour a day, with the missions bonuses, assuming you do pretty well...you might clear a stage a day. You've only got 87 days left (as of this writing)...
So you can see that you need to grind pretty steadily, and if you want to complete all three stages you may have to buy a few of the late stages for gold (250 gold per stage). NOTE: You apparently have to purchase the improved pass to qualify to purchase additional stages.
It's definitely doable, and many people will do it (especially if they play more than an hour a day) but it still feels grindier than past Battle Pass seasons.
UPDATE: Turns out it's not quite as grindy as I thought it might me. You can get 32 Battle Pass points each day for doing the daily missions (which most players probably do), so I find that I'm progressing more quickly than I expected, despite the higher requirements.
If you enjoy Steel Hunter, and I don't, there's good news for you. You can earn Battle Pass points in Steel Hunter as well.Steel Hunter
Rewards
The rewards for Battle Pass have gotten more interesting. As you go you'll earn credits, blueprints, equipment, training books, boosters and other random odds and ends.
This season they're doing the national blueprints and training books differently; you earn a quantity of blueprints or books, then you get to choose which nation they should apply to. That's nice because it means you don't end up with 157 blueprints for a nation you don't need to grind.
Battle Pass Tokens
At various milestones you can receive a Battle Pass Token. There are a total of 9 Battle Pass tokens across the base level, and 9 more if you bought the Improved level.
With those tokens you can purchase reward vehicles.
With those tokens you can purchase reward vehicles.
- 9 Tokens - Char Futur 4 - French, Tier IX, autoloading MT. Previously only available as a reward tank for playing Frontline/Steel Hunter. I don't have it yet, but it's my first choice of these tanks. Reminds me a bit of the Bourrasque, though I'm told it's not quite as good tier for tier.
- 9 Tokens - AE Phase 1 - USA, Tier IX, HT. I have this one from last year and like it a lot. Good heavy, good armor, good gun. Unique look. I should play it more often than I do.
- 9 Tokens - Object 777 - USSR, Tier IX, HT. Don't have this one yet, not sure if I'm interested. I've heard it's not especially good. But...I should have 9 tokens left after getting the Char so I *could* get it.
- 12 Tokens - K-91-PT - USSR, Tier IX, TD. New tank, getting generally good reviews. I've heard it described as a mini
- 18 Tokens - Kunze Panzer - German, Tier IX, MT. Another new tank. Has a siege mode. Getting some buzz. Apparently it's got a high skill cap (tough to play) but in the right hands can be very effective.
Note that if you don't earn enough Battle Pass Tokens to get what you really want you don't have to settle. You can save any unspent Battle Pass Tokens until later this year and there should be additional Battle Pass seasons. So maybe you only earned 14 tokens but you really want the Kunze Panzer. Just save the tokens and earn the last 4 in the next Battle Pass season.
My plan is to get the Char Futur 4, then decide if I want to get the 777, or save any remaining tokens and try to get the K-91 or Kunze Panzer in the next season.
What do you think of the new Battle Pass? Excited for any of the tanks? Let us know in the comments below.
GLHF!
