Do World of Tanks missions promote bad play?
Spoiler alert: Pretty often, yeah.
So tonight I had to finish this bonus mission of "Destroy 10 tanks". And normally I'd say "Fine, over the course of a session that shouldn't be a problem." But...I was at like 7, and it was getting late, and RNG was banging me without even asking my name. It seemed like every kill shot was missing, or bouncing, or low rolling. At least two or three times my kill shot was in the air, and a teammate killed the guy I was shooting.
Frustration set in and pretty soon I just thought "Fuck it. And for the last kill or two I just YOLO'd in on somebody who was a 1 shot. I got the kill (and actually, once I didn't because I YOLO'd in, BOUNCED another kill shot, and all his friends shot me) and then died pretty fast. Wasn't great for winning the battle, but fuck it - I just wanted to get the stupid mission over with.
I've written before about how "bounce damage" missions are bad for gameplay - because they force you to stick your nose out to get shot...and then encourage you NOT to return fire if somebody is bouncing shots off you. Heck, if that guy is going to keep bouncing AP rounds off my armor...I'll let him.
But that's bad gameplay. You SHOULD kill the red tanks...not sit there begging them to shoot you while you don't return fire.
Not all of the missions promote bad play...but too many of them do. Especially if you're tired or restless, or just want to get it over with. That's when you start YOLO'ing or doing other stupid stuff (like I did) just to get the damned mission over with already.
The ST-I
The IS-4 On-Track started today so I bought the Tier IX ST-I - which I already had unlocked - and got underway.
I already had all of the guns unlocked, from other tanks obviously, but not the other stuff like the turret or the tracks.
So how is it? Better than I expected; it's surprisingly comfortable - even when it's mostly stock. In my second battle out...I aced it.
Just kinda messing around chasing damage missions with TDs and decided to play a few games in the Tier 8 Rhm. B (Borsig). I forgot how SLOW that thing is. Power/Weight is an abysmal 9.75, which is slightly less than a VK 100.01P. Heck, even the Chrysler K has twice that.
Top speed is 35, but you may have to be falling off a cliff to get to that speed. Forget about shifting around the yard. You pretty much have to pick your favorite bush and park there.
That said the gun is excellent. I'm using the DPM gun instead of the Alpha gun (which doesn't help my mobility, I know, because the DPM gun is 2.1Kg heavier) and routinely doing 2.5-3K damage.
GLHF!
